A Taste of Colorado festival continued Monday, with nice weather attracting a big crowd to the annual event at Civic Center downtown.

Festival organizers predicted they would end up attracting more than 500,000 festival-goers through Monday night.

The 25th annual event awarded best-food prizes. India’s Restaurant took first place in the best-food category and second place with the best value. The most-unique-item award went to Bayou Bob’s for fried alligator, with Berrie Kabobs taking second place in that category. Grammy’s Italian Goodies captured first place in the best-value category.

Festival organizers estimated that over its first 24 years, those attending consumed 1.5 million ears of corn, 55,000 gallons of barbecue sauce, 1,000 gallons of marinara sauce and 80,000 ice-cream cones. Then there were the 525,000 slices of pickles.

Estimates are that visitors this year ate 50,000 ears of corn on the cob; 40,000 pounds of turkey legs; 2,000 pounds of chocolate; 15,000 tortillas; and 25,000 pounds of funnel cake.
