SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The brewer who dared to market “Legal Weed” has won.
Vaune Dillmann took on federal regulators this year when they ordered his Mt. Shasta Brewing Co. in Weed, Calif., to stop topping beer bottles with the words, “Try Legal Weed.” Regulars cited federal law prohibiting drug references on alcoholic beverages. But Dillmann refused to back down.
Facing a storm of bad publicity and a drawn-out court battle, the federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau reversed course and finalized approval of the cap last week.
