The FBI today expressed concern over a serial bank robber dubbed the “Super Sloth Bandit,” who has robbed two banks twice in recent weeks and appears to be wielding a semi-automatic handgun, possibly a .25-caliber.

Kathy Wright, an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said the suspect, who is about 5-foot-9 and weighs 175 to 185 pounds, robbed the Bank of the West at 12080 Colorado Blvd. in Thornton on both July 24 and again Tuesday.

On July 2 and again on Aug. 12, the man robbed the Compass Bank at 7375 Ralston Road in Arvada.

“He is displaying a gun. It is a safety issue,” said Wright.

She said “Super Sloth Bandit” was the moniker given to the suspect by the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Street Task Force because the word “super” appears on some of his clothing and because his physical appearance is similar to a sloth, a slow-moving mammal.

On Tuesday, he robbed the Bank of the West at about 3:15 p.m. On July 24, he entered the bank at about 1:39 p.m., pointed a gun at two tellers and stole money.

The robber is believed to be 25 to 30 years old and has short brown or black hair with side burns. He also has a goatee.

He carries a black canvas tote bag.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rocky Mountain Safe Street Task Force at 303-629-7171.
