Dan O’Dowd and his solemn pronouncements on his Rockies’ execution being “abysmal” kills me. If anyone has been abysmal, it’s the Rockies’ management and so-called front office. This is the team that O’Dowd built, traded away, dismantled and built again with one inept move after another — too many to mention in this space — over many seasons. The Rockies got lucky last September with a perfect storm that was no fault of management, though it was quick to claim credit and quicker to jack up ticket prices this season even after the World Series ticket fiasco, which it still hasn’t addressed.

Each year, the trade deadline comes and goes (think of all the for-sure trades that never happened) with no action from the Rockies’ front office that hates to spend money; although they did make a few bucks last season after years of lamenting falling attendance (wonder why that happened). And think of all the boneheaded trades that O’Dowd did make — shipping away quality players and getting zilch in return. Like the Republicans, Rockies’ management refuses to take responsibility for what has happened on its watch. And, like the Democrats in Congress, the Rockies have bleeped away many chances to improve things. Sorry if this offends the cellphone call-in talk show folks who would never speak of politics and sacred sport in the same breath.
