GOLDEN — David Pesek threw two touchdown passes to Adam Saur, and Colorado School of Mines cruised to a 37-17 win over Fort Hays State on Saturday.
Mines’ Brian Harclerode connected on a 33-yard field goal with 1:42 left in the second quarter, and Tom Kastens returned a Fort Hays punt 53 yards for a touchdown with only 35 seconds remaining in the first half to take a 23-10 lead at halftime.
Saur finished with five receptions for 60 yards while Pesek completed 16-of-22 passes (one interception) for 180 yards.
The Tigers’ Anthony Dickson found the end zone on a 9-yard scoring run with just 11 seconds elapsed in the second period for a four-point advantage. But Saur’s second touchdown reception of the afternoon gave the Orediggers the lead for good.
Jacobb Irvin had 107 yards rushing for the Tigers, who outgained Mines 197 to 46 on the ground.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Quarterback Lance Parker threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns to lead Ouachita Baptist in its season opener.
Parker, a senior, completed 18 of his 27 passes during a game that saw the Tigers score 58 unanswered points from near the end of the first quarter on. Senior wide receiver Julius Pruitt scored two touchdowns.
Fort Lewis (1-1) scored first in the game off a 32-yard carry by junior running back Joel Johnson. But the Skyhawks struggled through the remainder of the game. In the third quarter, a Fort Lewis fumble on the goal line was recovered for a touchdown by Tigers junior Jeremy Young.
The Tigers dominated the ground game, rushing 230 yards on 43 attempts. Fort Lewis managed only 34 yards on 25 attempts.

CEDAR CITY, Utah — Cody Stone passed for 178 yards and two touchdown passes to Tyson Poots for Southern Utah’s first win in 20 games.
Poots had seven receptions for 143 yards for the Thunderbirds (1-1), who had lost 19 straight dating back to September 2006.
Adams State (0-2) outgained Southern Utah 310-229 but trailed 35-0 at the half.
Oscar Murray scored Adams State’s only touchdown on a 38-yard pass with 3:35 left in the third quarter.
