An 18-year-old Peetz man was killed Thursday in rural Logan County after he rolled the pickup truck he was driving off the right side of Logan County Road 37 and was thrown from the vehicle, officials say.

Michael L. Wood was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4:15 p.m. accident near the intersection of Logan County roads 37 and 58 in northeast Colorado, according to Trooper Gilbert Mares, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol.

Wood was driving a black 1987 Toyota pickup truck south down a hill at a high speed when he lost control of the pickup and rolled off the right side of the road and crashed through a barbed-wire fence, Mares said.

The vehicle rolled several times and ejected Wood. The pickup stopped on its top.

Wood was not wearing a seat belt and was speeding at the time of the crash, Mares said.
