WASHINGTON — The penny is getting a face-lift next year. The U.S. Mint unveiled four designs Monday honoring President Lincoln at a ceremony on the National Mall.
Lincoln’s head will still grace the front of the coin as it has since 1909, and four images will be introduced for the reverse side, each showcasing a different stage of the 16th president’s life. A log cabin representing Lincoln’s childhood in Kentucky will be introduced on the bicentennial of his birth, Feb. 12. The next three will be phased in over the rest of the year.
