DENVER—The federal government has given state and local governments $21 million this year to fight terrorism. That includes money to protect communities from roadside bombs, improve communications, and deal with mass casualties in the event of an attack.
Ritter says the country is still at risk from a terrorist attack, even though there have been no attacks since 2001.
Colorado is only one of 11 states that qualified for increased funding this year.
Ritter says the state has made significant improvements to grant policies following a critical federal audit in 2005 that allowed the state to qualify for more grants.
