Two Dumpster fires in west Denver early this morning just blocks apart have firefighters concerned about the possibility of a serial arsonist.
No one was injured in the blazes, which were set about four minutes and four blocks apart, but a garage went up in flames and two vehicles suffered heavy damage, said Lt. Phil Champagne, a Denver Fire Department spokesman.
The first fire is believed to have been set at about 1:55 a.m. in a Dumpster in an alley behind 452 Knox Court, Champagne said.
“It appears to have started in a Dumpster and spread to a fence, and then a shed and then a garage,” Champagne said.
The fire took about 15 minutes to stamp out.
While firefighters were busy on Knox, a second fire was reported in the alley behind 805 Lowell Blvd., Champagne said.
The Lowell fire spread to a shed and took about five minutes to extinguish.
“Obviously, we are concerned about the proximity of the fires, especially at this time in the evening,” Champagne said. “We are not ruling out any possibilities.”
Both fires remain under investigation, Champagne said.
Investigators have talked with a witness, who gave them useful information, Champagne said.
