LINCOLN, Neb.—Former standout Nebraska receiver Maurice Purify will likely spend a week on house arrest as part of a plea deal stemming from an alleged probation violation.

Lancaster County prosecutors tried to revoke his probation based on the allegation he was caught drinking in California late last year. Purify pleaded no contest.

On Tuesday, Purify was sentenced to a week in jail, but is expected to be allowed to serve the time at home starting next month. He also received a $500 fine and six-month revocation of his driver’s license.

Purify has been on probation for more than a year for assault, drunken driving, disturbing the peace and hindering arrest.

Purify was released from the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad on Tuesday afternoon. A spokesman for the NFL team would not comment on the reason.

He had been on the practice squad since the beginning of the regular season, after he failed to make the team’s main roster during the preseason.
