MEAD — Weld County authorities say two people died when their car caught fire after a crash.
Undersheriff Margie Martinez says the crash happened early Saturday when the driver of a Volkswagen Passat crashed through barricades in a bridge construction zone. Mountain View Fire District spokesman Jesse Hogdson says the car became airborne after hitting a dirt berm and then crashed into a concrete barrier.
Martinez says a person who saw the crash was unable to reach the car’s occupants before it caught fire in Mead, about 35 miles north of Denver.
The names of the victims have not been released.
