The body found in the ashes of one of eight townhomes at a Colorado Springs complex destroyed by fire early Saturday is that of an adult female.
The coroner has completed an autopsy but hasn’t confirmed her identity, police said in a news release today. The woman died of “smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.”
One resident of the complex at 202 W. Rockrimmon Blvd. is still missing, police said; that person’s identity has not been released.
The cause and origin of the fire is still being investigated.
The fire was reported at 2:58 a.m. Saturday. Nine engines, 32 police officers and 88 firefighters from four fire stations responded to the blaze that leveled several units and gutted the remainder of them.
