A young woman who burglarized homes and stole mail from at least 11 people in the Conifer area has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Sophie Rose Shafer, 19, of Pine pleaded guilty to burglary earlier this month, and the plea identified 11 victims, according to the Jefferson County district attorney’s office.
She was sentenced in Golden on Monday.
Shafer and her boyfriend, Michael John Pantera, 27, of Denver, were arrested by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in late 2007 at a Wheat Ridge Hotel.
The couple drove around and stole mail from mailboxes, looking for cash or gift cards, and threw out remaining pieces of mail on roads, the DA’s office said in a press release.
The investigation into the mail thefts led authorities to a storage locker rented by the pair, which contained items stolen in burglaries, prosecutors said.
Pantera has pleaded not guilty to numerous counts of burglary, felony theft, criminal mischief, trespassing and giving false information to a pawnbroker.
He has a motions hearing slated for Nov. 7, and a three-week jury trial set to begin in January.
