Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler on Wednesday spoke about being 3-1 through the first quarter of the season and the challenges he faces Sunday against Tampa Bay’s defense.
“Extremely sound. You don’t see a lot of busts on that defense,” Cutler said. “Extremely fast. They react to the ball really well. They read the quarterback’s eyes. And they’re getting a lot of turnovers — a lot of turnovers — and that’s one thing that killed us last week, so it’s definitely going to be an emphasis this week.”
Cutler said the Broncos, who lost to the previously winless Chiefs last week, should be 4-0. But he said they deserve to be 3-1.
“Those first four games, everyone goes back and looks at them,” he said. “It’s kind of the first quarter, and then you make adjustments. We understand that offensively we’re doing some good stuff…
“We’re 3-1, which is a good start for us. We’re happy to be there, (but) obviously we feel we should be 4-0, but we kind of let one get away from us. We just have to get back to work, keep grinding, and see what happens.”
Cutler said he felt the lingering sting from the Kansas City loss on Monday and Tuesday.
“We did things we talked about all week that we couldn’t do _ turn the ball over, kill drives,” he said. “It’s tough to win football games like that.”
“After a couple days, (after) you kind of dwell on it a bit, you have a fresh week. That’s the good thing about the NFL, each and every week you get another chance to play.”
