BOISE, Idaho — Kellen Moore threw for two touchdowns and D.J. Harper rushed for two more to lead No. 17 Boise State to a 38-3 victory over Louisiana Tech on Wednesday night.
The Broncos (4-0, 1-0 Western Athletic Conference) got another impressive effort from their defense in beating the Bulldogs (2-2, 0-1) for the seventh straight time.
Moore, a redshirt freshman, finished 20-of-28 for 325 yards before heading to the bench early in the fourth quarter.
The left-hander tossed a 13-yard TD to Julian Hawkins early in the first quarter, then hit a wide-open Chris O’Neill for a 44-yard score to put the Broncos up 14-0 early in the second.
The Broncos rolled up 464 yards of total offense, avoided turnovers and costly penalties and never let the Bulldogs get close in the WAC opener for both teams.
Missouri safety Moore ready to return
COLUMBIA, Mo. — The return of William Moore comes at a good time for Missouri, as the fourth-ranked Tigers prepare for their Big 12 opener at Nebraska on Saturday.
Moore sprained a foot in the season-opening victory over Illinois, then aggravated the injury in a 69-17 win over Nevada on Sept. 13. The safety didn’t play in Missouri’s 42-21 win over Buffalo on Sept. 20.
The Tigers (4-0) had a bye last week, giving Moore an extra week to heal in preparation for Nebraska (3-1).
His return to the lineup is expected to help a Missouri defense that ranks 112th against the pass and 80th overall.
“We can do a lot of things with a healthy William Moore,” coach Gary Pinkel said. “You lose a player like that, it affects you. But the good news is he is back.”
Moore said he is at about “85 percent.”
Kansas’ Fields, Harper expected to return
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Receiver Dexton Fields (foot) and defensive back Kendrick Harper (neck, head) are expected to be ready to return from injuries for Kansas at Iowa State on Saturday.
“It’s the type of thing with Kendrick where you have to see every day how he responds on the practice field,” coach Mark Mangino said. “But do we expect him to play? Yes. Do we expect Dexton to play? Yes.”
Arkansas lineman has surgery
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas defensive lineman Ernest Mitchell has undergone an arthroscopic knee operation after an injury in Saturday’s 52-10 loss to Texas.
Coach Bobby Petrino said he wasn’t sure how long the senior would be out.
“We are still hopeful that he could return at some point this season,” Petrino said.
