GREEN BAY, Wis. — Despite a sprained right shoulder that limited him to a light workload in practice Wednesday, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he will do whatever it takes — including taking an injection — to start Sunday’s game against Atlanta at Lambeau Field.
And Rodgers said he doesn’t face any extra pressure to push himself because of the ironman consecutive- starts streak of his predecessor, Brett Favre.
“Listen, I want to play every game,” Rodgers said Wednesday. “I don’t need that, ‘Oh, you’ve got to play because Brett played 250 in a row.’ I don’t need that.”
But Rodgers’ prospects for starting five in a row look tenuous. Rookie backups Matt Flynn and Brian Brohm got most of the work in practice and Flynn will start if Rodgers can’t.
Also, the Packers placed defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins on injured reserve with a chest muscle injury.
All is well in Cowboys nation
IRVING, Texas — Despite publicly voicing dissatisfaction with the number of times he got the ball during Sunday’s loss to the Redskins, Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens insisted a lot is being made of nothing.
“I know in my heart, this team, we’re still together. Dude, I promise you, we’re fine in this locker room,” said Owens, who also blamed the media for “making their stake at a claim to divide this team — and it’s not going to happen.”
The sentiment was echoed by Tony Romo.
“It’s easy to work with a guy who goes hard and comes here and wants to win,” the quarterback said. “The rest of the stuff? It’s stuff. You’re going to go through ups and downs.”
Footnotes.
Titans quarterback Vince Young practiced for the first time since spraining his left knee Sept. 7 and sparking concern after police were called to help search for him. Coach Jeff Fisher has said Kerry Collins will remain the starter as long as the team continues to win.
• Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer handed off during practice but didn’t participate in plays that called for a pass, part of the plan to help his sore elbow heal. Coach Marvin Lewis said he plans to wait until late in the week to decide whether Palmer will play Sunday against Dallas.
• Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin will be sidelined indefinitely after suffering a fractured sinus as a result of what he acknowledges was the worst hit he’s received in his football career — a helmet-to-helmet collision with Jets safety Eric Smith during Sunday’s loss.
• Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor did not practice and appears likely to miss a second straight game as he recovers from calf surgery.
• Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (ankle) was a limited participant in practice and coach Andy Reid said the team will “see how it works out for Sunday” against the Redskins.
• Patriots coach Bill Belichick denied the tampering claim by Raiders owner Al Davis that New England had a workout with Randy Moss before obtaining the receiver in a trade with Oakland.
• Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes has had swelling in his injured left knee after almost every workout and does not appear close to returning to action.
• Seahawks receivers Bobby Engram (shoulder) and Deion Branch (knee) are expected to return to action beginning with Sunday’s game against the Giants.
• Bills cornerback Terrence McGee (knee) missed practice and is questionable for Sunday’s game at Arizona.
• The Saints brought back Joey Harrington as their third quarterback.
