A pickup and van collided at East 16th Avenue. and Clarkson Street before lunch today, flipping the van and pushing it into a nearby bicyclist and a parked car.
The bicycle rider was most seriously injured, although a Denver Police detective said the man was stable and the injuries were not life-threatening.
The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m.
Tim Robertson, driver of the Nissan pickup, said he was driving northbound on Clarkson and suddenly saw the blue Honda Element in front of him as he entered the intersection.
Both were going at street speed, said Robertson, of Denver, who was not injured.
It was not clear who was at fault. There were no skid marks left by either vehicle, indicating neither driver hit the brakes before impact.
The Honda van ended on its top, next to a parked car that had its front end smashed by the flipped van. A bicycle lay next to the wrecked vehicles.
Both of the Nissan’s air bags deployed and Robertson said he saw the Honda driver crawl out of the overturned van after the accident. That driver sat near the wreckage after the accident for a while and did not appear to be hurt, Robertson said.
