DEVELOPING: PALIN-NEBRASKA, NEBRASKA-MIZZOU MAULING, MIGHTY MISSOURI, BIG 12 PERSPECTIVE.

PALIN-NEBRASKA

OMAHA, Neb.—Alaska governor Sarah Palin will headline a rally Sunday night in Omaha, a hint that Republicans are taking seriously Democrat Barack Obama’s incursion into the state. Obama has set up offices in Omaha, trying to shave off an electoral vote from the district that includes the state’s largest city. By Anna Jo Bratton. Event starts 6 p.m. CDT.

STRAHL APPEAL

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—Prosecutors have appealed to the South Dakota Supreme Court a judge’s order giving a Nebraska man a new trial for the 1998 beating death of a Beresford man. James Strahl of Dakota City, Neb., received mandatory life in prison a year ago after being convicted of first-degree murder for killing William O’Hare at his farm house. By Carson Walker.

FBC–NEBRASKA-MIZZOU MAULING

LINCOLN, Neb.—Nebraska gets no break after its 35-point loss to Chase Daniel and the Missouri Tigers. Graham Harrell and Texas Tech get the next shot at the Huskers, and like Missouri, the Red Raiders can put up points in a hurry. By Sports Writer Eric Olson.

DIRTY NEBRASKA?

LINCOLN—Nebraska coach Bo Pelini said he would try to contact Missouri coach Gary Pinkel to discuss Chase Daniel’s comments about the Cornhuskers being a dirty team. The Tigers star quarterback said a Nebraska player spit on him before Saturday night’s game, which Missouri won 52-17. Daniel also told reporters after the game that Nebraska players threw footballs at the Tigers as they were warming up.

FBC–T25-MIGHTY MISSOURI

LINCOLN, Neb.—So Missouri’s hex in Lincoln has been broken. The 52-17 victory over Nebraska was a job well done. Now comes Oklahoma State. Then comes a trip to Texas. The next two weeks could determine whether the Tigers return to the Big 12 championship game. Star receiver Jeremy Maclin isn’t fazed. “The scary part about this is we haven’t played our best game yet,” he said. By Sports Writer Eric Olson.

FBC–BIG 12 PERSPECTIVE

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Half the Big 12 was ranked, which is unusual in its own right. Even more rare, however, is the fact the ranked half played the unranked half on the first day of conference action and went 6-0. Only one game was even competitive. There is clearly a dividing line between the haves and the have-nots in the Big 12, between the rebuilding and the solidly built. By Sports Writer Doug Tucker.
