DENVER—A former prison secretary who says she had an ongoing relationship with an inmate took her children off her life insurance policy and made the inmate her beneficiary instead.
Janine Sligar, a former secretary at the Florence Federal Correctional Complex, pleaded guilty Friday to having an ongoing relationship with the inmate, who wasn’t named. Sligar’s guilty plea included the insurance admission, as well as her admission that she had sex with the inmate between 10 and 20 times last year in the prison.
Sligar, 47, also admitted using her phone to make graphic pictures of her and the inmate.
She faces a maximum of 15 years in prison, though a sentence of just over a year is likely. is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 23.
Agent Craig Trautner of the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Inspector General investigated Sligar after receiving information about her misconduct. Investigators found in Sligar’s Wray home a journal with entries, and letters and photographs of a sexual nature, the plea agreement stated.
In the plea agreement, she admitted obtaining an additional cellular telephone “with a non-local number so the inmate could call her without raising suspicion.”
Sligar also admitted providing contraband to the inmate, including explicit sexual photographs and the dietary supplement creatine.
Sligar had worked at the prison 14 years before being charged in July, The Pueblo Chieftain reported.
