When it was first shown in limited theatrical release last year, the full-length documentary “Spirit of the Marathon” enthralled runners who filled theaters to see it. This month it became available in DVD.
“Spirit of the Marathon” tells the moving story of six people training for the 2005 Chicago Marathon — Kenyan Daniel Njenga, Olympic bronze medalist Deena Kastor and four ordinary runners united in one extraordinary goal. The movie follows them through race day, beautifully capturing the excitement and drama of a big-city marathon.
It also includes interviews with Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, Paula Radcliffe, Kathrine Switzer and others talking about the mystique of the 26.2-mile distance.
