Police are searching for a motive explaining why a woman was shot in the lower body at Highland Hollow Park in Aurora on Monday night.

“This appears to be an unprovoked shooting,” said Bob Friel, Aurora police spokesman. “We don’t know what motivated the shooter.”

The woman, whose identity was not released, was in good condition after she was taken by a friend to a hospital, Friel said.

The woman was with the friend just before 8 p.m. at the park near South Tower Road and East Mississippi Avenue when an unknown person fired a shot, he said.

“We have very little information about this,” Friel said.

The victim and her friend say they did not recognize the shooter and did know why the shot was fired, he said.
