DEER TRAIL, Colo.—A Lakewood man is dead and another man is hospitalized after their pickup truck hit a deer and rolled off Interstate 70.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gilbert Mares identified the man killed as 55-year-old Cecilio Torres and the injured man as 48-year-old Jose E. Vigil of Wheat Ridge. Mares says the two were eastbound in a Ford F-350 flatbed pickup about 6:45 a.m. Friday when they struck the animal three miles west of Deer Trail.
The deer was thrown to the left lane of I-70 and killed. The pickup went off the right side of the road and rolled over.
Torres was pronounced dead at the scene, while Vigil was airlifted to The Medical Center of Aurora South with minor injuries.
Both were wearing seat belts. Drugs and speed are not considered factors.
