Early voting started today as county clerks across Colorado brace for the challenges of an increased voter turnout and a lengthy ballot loaded with initiatives.
In Denver alone, voter registration is up nearly 100,000 voters to 403,560 since the last presidential election.
Get-out-the-vote groups have pushed mail-in ballots as one solution to crowded polling places, and about a third of Coloradans listened, according to the secretary of state’s office.
This may the first election in which a majority of ballots are sent in. Colorado has some 2.5 million active registered voters.
Voters in Denver can drop off their mail-in ballots — or hit a voting booth — at one of the city’s 13 early-voting sites between today and Oct. 31, excluding Sunday.
The Denver Elections Division headquarters at 3888 E. Mexico Ave. will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
