Two men including one already serving time in a New Orleans prison for murder have been arrested for investigation in the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man in a Colorado Springs parking lot.
Kentswan Davis, 27, and Clifford Dupree, 31, face homicide charges for the July 10, 2002, murder of Cornelius Dowdell, 29, Lt. David Whitlock of the Colorado Springs Police Department said in a new release.
Detectives from the department’s cold case squad took up the case in which Dowdell was shot to death in the parking lot of the Cedar Creek Club Apartments at 1070 S. Chelton Rd., Whitlock said.
Davis was served an arrest warrant for first-degree murder in the New Orleans Parish Prison, where he has been kept since 2007 on a homicide case.
Davis allegedly fatally shot Damont Jenkins, 31, on April 7, 2007 in the 1300 block of Mandeville Street in New Orleans following an argument, The Times-Picayune reported.
Authorities will seek his extradition to Colorado, according to Whitlock.
Dupree was also served an arrest warrant while he was incarcerated.
He is serving a burglary and forgery conviction in the Cheyenne Mountain Re-Entry Center in Colorado Springs. He will later be transferred to El Paso County Criminal Justice Center, Whitlock said.
