DUNN, N.C. — Five people were killed in North Carolina after police say a car ran a stop sign and was run over by a tanker truck.
Trooper Gregg Steffens says the three men and two women killed Friday night were all in their 20s and all from the Raleigh area.
Their names are not being released until family members are notified.
All five were riding in a sedan that ran a stop sign on a highway near Dunn, about 30 miles south of Raleigh. Both vehicles then collided with an oncoming station wagon.
The driver of the station wagon suffered broken bones and was released from a hospital today. The tanker driver, 41-year-old Ronnie Vanatta Jr., was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
