DENVER—With Halloween less than a week away and children getting ready to head out trick or treating, the U.S. Marshals Service and 36 other agencies fanned out to catch unregistered sex offenders this weekend.
Ken Deal, the chief deputy U.S. marshal in Denver, said 51 people had been arrested by Sunday evening. Eight of them were on state’s “Top 100 Sex Offender” list.
Those arrested have been convicted of various sex offenses.
Congress two years ago gave the Marshals the authority to assist in cases involving sex offenders who fail to register.
While the coordinated sweep is ending, Deal said authorities would continue to look for more offenders during the week.
