TAMPA, FLA. — Colorado Rockies pitcher Luis Vizcaino has been arrested after police in Tampa say he was driving under the influence.
Officers said he was going 71 mph in a 45 mph zone early today.
Police said Vizcaino’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot and he smelled of alcohol, with his blood alcohol level just over the limit.
The 34-year-old pitcher lives in St. Petersburg and was being held at Hillsborough County Jail on $500 bond.
Vizcaino was 1-2 this season with a 5.28 ERA.
In response, the Rockies said in a statement:
“Our organization was extremely disappointed to learn of the arrest of Luis Vizcaino for allegedly driving under the influence early Sunday in Florida. We are continuing to monitor the situation and have been in contact with Luis and his representatives. We understand that they are working through the issues with local authorities and that Luis clearly understands the seriousness of the situation.”
