All too frequently, young people come to public attention for all the wrong reasons.

That’s not the case with 11-year-old Roman Ross, honored this week for his bravery in pulling a drowning young boy from a pool.

We are glad to add to the accolades this young man has received for his actions this past summer.

None of us really knows how we’d react when faced with such a situation.

Most of us would like to think we’d do the same thing as Ross, and pull the child to safety, but you just don’t know.

That Ross had the presence of mind to see the emergency in the apartment complex pool before him and take action is mature beyond his years.

Ross jumped in the water, got the boy out of the pool and called for help. An adult came to aid in the resuscitation of the child.

Denver police, who said Ross’ actions probably saved the boy’s life, gave the Hill Middle School sixth- grader a plaque and called him a hero.

Indeed.
