CHICAGO—The parent company of United Airlines announced Friday it had canceled plans to increase the charge for a second checked bag to $50 each way.

UAL Corp. said the fee for checking a second bag on a domestic flight will remain at $25 for a one-way fare, $50 per roundtrip.

United also said it would offer a temporary 20 percent discount off the $15 fee for a first checked bag for travelers who pay for it via the carrier’s Web site between Nov. 10 and Jan. 31.

Shares of UAL fell 49 cents, or 3.43 percent, to $13.78 in late-morning trading on the Nasdaq.
