DENVER—Rep. Kathleen Curry, a Western Slope Democrat, has been named speaker pro tem, the second-ranking position in the state House.
House Speaker-designate Terrance Carroll said Tuesday that Curry, who is from Gunnison, will give western Colorado a voice in major decisions.
He says the Legislature will tap Curry’s expertise in agriculture, oil and gas and rural issues.
Her duties will include serving as speaker when Carroll is absent and helping other Democrats get elected in the next round of elections in 2010.
Carroll says Curry will also keep her job as chair of the House Agriculture Committee.
The nomination requires a vote of the House after the Legislature convenes on Jan. 7.
