CARACAS, Venezuela — A senior Venezuelan official says a major opponent of President Hugo Chavez could soon be detained on corruption charges.
Vice President Ramon Carrizalez says Gov. Manuel Rosales could be detained after mayoral and gubernatorial elections Nov. 23. He said at that point authorities won’t have to adhere to a special procedure for detaining top officials.
Rosales is the popular two-time governor of Zulia state. He’s running for mayor of Venezuela’s second-largest city, Maracaibo.
