When the going gets tough, Smoky Hill High School gets going.
Yes, Smoky Hill students and their backers in the faculty and community are once again mounting their Thanksgiving SHARE Basket Project to feed hungry metro Denver families.
We first saluted these fine young people in 1999 when their program celebrated its 11th year. Now, they’re back for their 20th sharing project, which has served 4,012 needy families to date. They expect to serve 300 families with baskets of food and a $15 King Soopers gift certificate this year.
Not even these fine youths could serve so many people without community support, and their backers are too numerous to mention. In addition to King Soopers, Tagawa Gardens, which raised a truckload of non-perishable food and $1,509 in cash from its customers, deserves special mention, as does Cub Scout Pack 113 from Indian Ridge Elementary School.
Besides helping the needy in a pinch, these fine folks are instilling solid values in our next generation. May their tribe increase.
