NORTHGLENN, Colo.—A father who beat to death another man believed at fault in a collision that killed his two teenage stepchildren faces up to 12 years in prison.
Phillip Chavez of Loveland pleaded guilty Friday to reckless manslaughter in the death of 62-year-old Glenn Ryburn of Northglenn. He had faced second-degree murder and other charges.
Police say an enraged Chavez got out of his vehicle and hit Ryburn 50 to 150 times after Ryburn’s Chevy Blazer rear-ended Chavez’s Ford Escort March 8. Killed instantly were 14-year-old Damien Noyes and 13-year-old Angel Noyes.
Ryburn never regained consciousness and died May 16. The 38-year-old Chavez faces up to 12 years in prison if a judge finds aggravating circumstances.
