ANAHEIM, CALIF. — Avalanche captain Joe Sakic will miss tonight’s game against Anaheim because of a sudden root canal surgery.
Avs vice president Jean Martineau said Sakic complained of pain in a tooth, and it was revealed he had an infection.
The dental ailment came just when Sakic was set to return to the lineup after missing five games with a back injury. He would have played tonight if not for the root canal. He is expected to play Wednesday night against St. Louis against the Pepsi Center.
Also, the Avs will play without forward Wojtek Wolski, who was hit in the head in Saturday’s game against Los Angeles, nor defenseman Adam Foote, who has back and neck pain following a hard hit from L.A.’s John Zeiler.
Zeiler was suspended for three games by the NHL today for the hit.
