Lafayette College (2-2) of the Patriot League will face Colorado (2-1) tonight in a men’s basketball game in Boulder, and one of the Leopards’ top players will be familiar to area hoops fans.

Andrew Brown, a 6-foot-1 senior guard and co-captain, earned state player of the year honors in 2005 after leading Heritage High School to the Class 5A title. Brown is averaging 15.3 points this season.

Kyle leads Buffs to 12th place.

Colorado’s Jordan Kyle earned All-America honors after finishing 14th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday, leading the Buffaloes to a 12th-place finish in the team standings.

Kyle finished the 10K course in 29 minutes, 32.4 seconds. Oregon’s Galen Rupp earned the individual title in 29:03.2. The Ducks also won the team competition. CU finished out of the top 10 for the first time since 1992, when it placed 11th, and for the first time under coach Mark Wetmore. The CU women did not qualify for nationals for the first time since 1991.

Sixteen Rapids unprotected.

The Colorado Rapids left 16 players unprotected for Wednesday’s MLS expansion draft, including British star Terry Cooke.

The expansion Seattle Sounders will select no more than one player from each MLS team to begin filling its roster. Rapids players available are goalkeepers Pres ton Burpo and Justin Hughes; defenders Jose Burciaga Jr., Facundo Erpen, Jordan Harvey, Stephen Keel, Kosuke Kimura, Mike Petke, Kwame Sarkodie, Tim Ward and Cesar Zambrano; midfielders Cooke, Greg Dalby, John DiRaimondo and Brian Grazier; and forward Tom McManus.
