Denver International Airport is expecting a dip in travelers from last year but a busy holiday week nonetheless.

Airlines have booked 929,220 passengers from Tuesday through next Monday, down from the 950,092 during Thanksgiving week last year.

The decline is the result of airlines’ scaled-back flights nationwide in the wake of the sagging economy, according to DIA.

The estimate still would give the 13-year-old airport its third-busiest Thanksgiving week ever. Last year was the second-busiest, behind 2006 with 966,976 travelers.

Sunday will be the busiest travel day this year, with 157,528 passengers. Wednesday will be the busiest pre-Thanksgiving day, as 146,325 travelers pass through.

DIA has hired musicians and dancers to perform throughout the main terminal from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, and again on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Bus commuters to the airport can check the Regional Transportation District website to find parking at its 14 skyRide locations across the metro region through New Year’s Day.

Commuters should check www.rtd-denver.com just before they leave home, as supervisors will check lots and update parking availability throughout the day.
