ANAHEIM, Calif. — Joe Sakic was laughing with teammates Sunday afternoon, anticipating a return to the Avalanche lineup the next night. Monday morning, he awoke to searing dental pain and, thus, his return to the team was delayed another game.
Sakic suffered an infection to a previous root canal and needed another procedure Monday. He missed the game with the Ducks, but should be able to play Wednesday at home against St. Louis.
Sakic had missed five games with back problems, which he said had subsided. Sakic remained at the Avs’ team hotel during the game and was slated to fly back with the team.
Foote, Wolski updates.
Adam Foote and Wojtek Wolski also missed the game, as expected.
The Avs said Foote felt better Monday after suffering head, neck and back injuries after a hit from behind by Los Angeles Kings forward John Zeiler. Foote is listed as day to day. Zeiler was suspended for three games Monday by the NHL.
The Avs are listing Wol- ski as out indefinitely, with nothing more than “head” listed as his injury. It is unclear whether Wolski suffered a concussion.
Wolski was hurt after a collision with the Kings’ Sean O’Donnell on Saturday. He appeared lucid and in good spirits following that game and rode a stationary bike Sunday. But he did not skate Monday.
Pronger, blogger.
Ducks star defenseman Chris Pronger has become one of the first NHL players with a blog — .
Here’s a recent entry on why he switched from his longtime No. 44 to No. 25 with Anaheim: “44 was taken by Robbie Niedermayer, and I needed to figure out what number I wanted to switch to. My friend Mark McGwire suggested that I try out 25, his former number. From there it took on a life of it’s (sic) own and voila #25 was born!!”
