Officials said today they don’t believe an accident that killed an 18-year-old Legacy High School student involved drugs or alcohol.
Chris Reagan of Westminster crashed his car in the northbound lanes Interstate 25 at 11:55 p.m. Saturday near the E-470 interchange. He got out of his car and was hit by a semi in the southbound lanes as he crossed the highway.
The semi-driver swerved, Broomfield police said in news release today, but the rear wheels of the truck’s trailer hit Reagan, killing him.
The driver immediately stopped and called authorities.
Officials do not suspect the semi driver was using drugs or alcohol, and he will not be charged.
Regan was a senior and soccer star at Legacy High School in Thornton, according to a release from the Adams 12 School District.
His family said he hoped to play soccer with Metro State in the fall.
Legacy made arrangements for grief counselors to be at the school today to help students and staff.
Regan’s parents issued a statement today:
“Our lives will never be as rich without him and his creative spirit and love for life will forever be missed.”
He is survived by his parents, Natalie and Tony Reagan; his sister, Laura; grandfather Whitey Wilson and his wife, Karen; grandparents Kermit and Julie Reagan,; many aunts and uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m., at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 12021 Northhaven Circle in Thornton.
Burial will follow at Olinger Highland Cemetery.
