Good-hearted donors brought thousands of frozen turkeys to the Denver Rescue Mission after the group issued an appeal for more food because of the increased demand in tough economic times.

The mission announced that as of Tuesday morning it had received 7,314 turkeys, and more were coming in. The mission had previously said that because of the huge jump in demand, it needed another 2,000 Thanksgiving turkeys to reach its goal of 6,000 turkeys by today. But Tuesday, Greta Walker, spokeswoman for the mission, said that because the goal of 6,000 turkeys had been surpassed, the mission will give the additional frozen turkeys to smaller agencies and churches. These agencies, requesting approximately 4,000 turkeys, include Senior High Rise Food Bank, Wishing Well, Mean Street Ministries, Frierson International Ministries, Agape Church, Deliverance Tabernacle and Redeemed Ones Jail and Prison Ministries.
