GREELEY, Colo.—Greeley police say a recent spike in gang-related violence doesn’t indicate more shootings, but rather that the shooters have been hitting their targets more often.

Police Chief Jerry Garner spoke Monday after two people were wounded in separate weekend shootings and two others were killed earlier this month. Investigators have said they believe the shootings were gang-related.

“In the past few years, we’ve always had gangsters shooting at each other,” Garner said. “But they’ve been missing each other. In the most recent cases, they connected.”

Police Sgt. Joe Tymkowych said one of the weekend shootings occurred at a house party, where a man was wounded in the shoulder after an argument.

Police say a man with a sawed-off shotgun injured another man who was allegedly trying to steal his car.

In the other shootings this month, police arrested 22-year-old Dennis Moncado-Medrano in connection with the death of 20-year-old Samuel Salinas. Police said the shooting happened outside a bar after a fight.

Police are still looking for the suspect in the homicide of Anthony David DeSantiago, 23, killed at a Greeley trailer park.
