LOVELAND, Colo.—A 32-year-old man accused of killing a Loveland man who had a home but sometimes slept in fields has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge.
Daniel Monacelli on Tuesday pleaded guilty under a plea deal to manslaughter in last year’s death of 48-year-old Sander “Sandy” Hansen. He originally faced second-degree murder and first-degree assault charges.
According to police, Monacelli, formerly of Loveland, admitted stabbing Hansen outside a Loveland bar on May 25, 2007.
Hansen’s body was found two days later in a nearby drainage ditch. The coroner said he drowned and was stabbed in the abdomen.
Monacelli was arrested in June, capping a 13-month investigation.
