DENVER—A train conductor is dead after a slow-moving train collided with a semi-truck at an unlit intersection in Adams County.
The Colorado Highway Patrol says the truck was westbound on 66th Avenue when it struck the “front portion” of the northbound locomotive at about 7 p.m. Wednesday. The truck rolled onto its passenger side, while the train remained upright and on the rails.
The patrol says the conductor, who was working outside the locomotive on the Denver Rock Island Railroad, died at the scene. His name wasn’t released.
The driver of the truck was taken to a hospital in Thornton with minor to moderate injuries.
The train included only an engine and three cars, and authorities say it was traveling about 5 mph. The truck’s speed is under investigation.
