GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—A woman who pleaded guilty to being an accessory in the shooting of a Colorado State Patrol trooper has been sentenced to four years of probation.
Cori Graham, 29, of DeBeque, also was sentenced Friday to a substance abuse evaluation, drug testing and 80 hours of community service.
Prosecutors accused her of helping Steven Appl try to escape after Appl shot Brian Koch in the arm at a traffic stop near Silt on Oct. 24, 2006. Koch suffered permanent injuries and no longer works for the State Patrol.
Appl shot and killed himself the next day at a police checkpoint while he was inside a truck that Graham was driving.
Graham told the (Glenwood Springs) Post Independent she only drove the truck because Appl, a methamphetamine dealer, had a gun. She said she accepted a plea agreement that included no jail time because of her three kids.
Two other people were sentenced earlier in the case.
Nicole Brownell was sentenced to five years in prison for being an accessory to attempted first-degree murder. Wayne Hangs pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and received an 18-month term of probation under a deferred judgment and sentence.
Prosecutors said Brownell let Appl stay in Hangs’ home, where she was living.
