IRVING, Texas — Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones might miss the rest of the season because of a neck injury.

Coach Wade Phillips said Wednesday that Jones, who was injured early in Dallas’ 20-13 loss at Pittsburgh, has a “herniated disc, maybe two” and will definitely miss Sunday’s game against the Giants.

“Our people don’t think it’s career-threatening or anything else that he would have to be operated (on) or anything like that,” Phillips said. “But it is something that might put him out this year.”

Giants deny Burress’ bonus

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Giants have refused to pay suspended receiver Plaxico Burress a $1 million portion of a signing bonus from a contract signed in September and due Wednesday.

“We will file a claim in the appropriate forum to enforce his right to receive and keep the moneys entitled to him under his player contract,” NFL Players Association union spokesman Carl Francis said.

The union Tuesday filed a grievance challenging the Giants’ decision to suspend and fine Burress last week, just days after the receiver accidentally shot himself in a Manhattan nightclub Nov. 29.

Footnotes.

Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel left the team to join his family following the death of his father Monday. Coach Bill Belichick said he didn’t know when Cassel would rejoin the team or whether he would be able to start Sunday against the Raiders.

• The Lions probably will be without quarterback Daunte Culpepper (shoulder) on Sunday against the Colts.

• Panthers offensive lineman Jeremy Bridges practiced with the team three days after he was arrested for the second time in 16 months on assault charges. “We’ll keep you posted, but last time I looked you’re innocent until proven guilty,” coach John Fox said.

• Seahawks defensive end Patrick Kerney and offensive guard Mike Wahle have completed what the team termed “successful” shoulder surgeries.

• Bills quarterback Trent Edwards (groin) is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Jets, while defensive end Aaron Schobel could be placed on injured reserve with a foot injury.
