A lawsuit filed by a coalition of Summit County governments against the Denver Water Board after it closed the Dillon Dam Road has been dismissed by agreement of the parties.

The lawsuit was filed July 11, several days after the water board — citing concerns the dam was vulnerable to terrorist attack — closed the road to vehicles. The closure upset residents of Summit County, where the road across the dam is one of the area’s major thoroughfares. Police and fire officials said the closure could cause life-threatening situations. Brandon Williams, a spokesman for Lake Dillon Fire Rescue, said barriers across the road could delay the department’s response time. On July 25, the Dillon Dam Road, which carries an average of 8,500 vehicles a day, reopened from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

A joint statement by the Denver Water Board, Summit County and the towns of Silverthorne, Frisco and Dillon said continued court litigation would be a waste of time and money.
