PUEBLO, Colo.—A Pueblo man accused in the shooting death of his mother will stand trial in the case.

Prosecutors say 43-year-old Landon Avery shot his mother once in the head and chest on October 2007. Pueblo police Detective Mark Bravo testified that officers found 86-year-old Mary Lynn Avery dead on the sidewalk in front of the house she shared with her son.

Prosecutors say Avery had a loaded .357 Magnum when he was arrested at the scene.

District Judge David Crockenberg on Friday ordered Avery to stand trial. He is scheduled to enter a plea Feb. 2 but prosecutors and Avery’s attorney’s will meet with psychiatrists before then to determine whether he is competent to stand trial.
