A gas plant explosion in Weld County forced the evacuation of a number of employees and five homes in Weld County this morning.

One person suffered minor injuries at the Spindle Hill Energy Center near Fort Lupton, said Weld County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Margie Martinez.

The fire, which started about 11 a.m., was out by 1 p.m., Martinez said.

Weld County roads 14 and 19 remained closed in the area.

Plant employees were evacuated to the nearby Branding Iron restaurant, Martinez said.

The plant is owned by DCP Midstream, Martinez said. The company processes, transports and markets natural gas, according to its website.
