DENVER — A grand jury has indicted a Denver minister on charges of stealing at least $80,000 in a mortgage scheme that relied on false information to get reduced interest rates.

Pastor Harold Joe Hicks of Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church faces eight counts of felony theft and eight counts of felony forgery.

Hicks’ office voice mail would not accept messages Thursday, and no home phone listing could be found.

The indictment, made public Thursday, says the alleged scam used surrogate buyers and false information on loan applications.

The indictment alleges that lenders lost at least $80,000 on loans for eight properties that were based on applications with false information.
