BRIGHTON, Colo.—Several residents of an assisted-living facility in Brighton have been temporarily relocated to a hotel after a water line on the top floor of the building froze and broke overnight.
Crews from the Greater Brighton Fire Protection District were called to the Brighton Village Apartments about 2:25 a.m. Thursday after a water line feeding the facility’s sprinkler system ruptured, forcing an evacuation.
Fire officials later condemned the building because of water damage.
Police say 56 residents were displaced. Most were picked up by relatives or friends who provided shelter, but police say approximately 10 residents were taken to a hotel.
The American Red Cross assisted the displaced residents.
Brighton is 14 miles northeast of Denver.
