When was the last time the Christmas Day lineup of so-called box-office blockbusters actually lived up to the hype? We can’t remember, either.

But this year’s seven-picture slate of holiday flicks is a present that — for once — cinephiles and plain ol’ movie fans won’t feel like regifting.

Today, Denver Post film critic Lisa Kennedy shows us how audiences will be tempted and teased in movie theaters this week.

In this section, find her reviews of the adaptation of John Grogan’s dog tale “Marley & Me,” starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson; Clint Eastwood’s “Gran Torino”; “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett; and Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes in “The Reader.”

Visit for her take on Tom Cruise in “Valkyrie,” plus reviews of the comic-book adaptation “The Spirit” and Disney’s silly “Bedtime Stories.”
